With both tools, the authority scores (calculated by looking at the site's link profile) aren't very good since they can't accurately filter out spam sites, press releases, syndicated links, etc. However, SEMrush's Network Graph and "Natural Profile" scores make theirs a bit more useful.
SEMrush's layout and visual aids are its biggest strengths in my opinion. The have anchor text word clouds, referring domain category breakdowns, and other useful reports and metrics that Ahrefs doesn't have.
That said, SEMrush also pushes their "Overall Toxicity Score," and I recommend you ignore it for the most part.
